GGA Maur revolutionizes its access network

In cooperation with BN and Calix, the regional communications company is taking an important step towards a software-based access network.

In recent years, GGA Maur has repeatedly demonstrated that the satisfaction of its customers is particularly important to them. With the promise «our best internet always and everywhere», the company consistently focuses on high service quality instead of unrealistic promises about bandwidths. A clear and modular product portfolio that focuses on customers and their needs also supports the message.

The switch to a software-based access network is therefore a logical next step for the provider, which will ensure the highest quality and maximum agility in the future.

«With Calix's Intelligent Access EDGE solution, which is offered exclusively by BN in the Swiss market, we can radically simplify the management and administration of our network infrastructure and automate very many processes. This leads to lower operational costs and thus also to reduced time-to-market for new networks and services».
— Andreas Lindner, CEO GGA Maur

The modular platform based on the «pay as you grow»  principle and the BN subscription model convinced GGA Maur. Michele Cotoia, Head of ICT, emphasizes: «For GGA Maur, the further stages of network expansion will be very systematic. There will not be high initial investments, instead the service price for the Calix elements used in each case will be adjusted accordingly. In addition, the innovative Calix platform has proved convincing in comparison with traditional chassis based FTTH systems. For example, new functions can be loaded as virtualized network functions (VNF) via software module. Thanks to standardized interfaces, the Calix platform could also be integrated quickly and cost-effectively into the existing system landscape. The implementation went smoothly, and the platform installed today is extremely stable.»

«With GGA Maur, we are pleased to have a visionary customer who understands the advantages that a software-based access network holds not only for the business processes but above all for the end customers» , adds Daniel Schurter, Team Leader Gigabit Access at BN.

In a further step, GGA Maur will take a closer look at the Operations Cloud from Calix. The focus will be on the potential for further reducing the complexity of existing OSS systems and increasing the efficiency of operations.
